Grizzly G1550 8×18″ Lathe – Predecessor to G4000 9×20 Lathe

Earlier this year I bought a used G1550 lathe off Craigslist.  It’s made in Taiwan versus the Grizzly G4000 that is currently available and made in China.  Some might say the G1550 is better, but it’s all a matter of opinion and dependent on the condition of the lathe.  Also, you’ll notice the 8×18″ vs. 9×20″ for the G4000, that’s odd because most indications are they’re THE SAME LATHE.  A bit of specs-manship going here.  At least, that’s what I’ve read.

Here’s some pix of the beauty, be sure to note that I broke the on/off switch when unloading it from my truck.  It clipped the garage door when sliding it out of the bed of the truck and sheared it off!   So, for now I use a small vice-grips as my lever for the on/off.  Pretty much stink-o-la’s and is probably a bit dangerous, so need to work on that.
