Hikvision Cameras from AliExpress for Zoneminder

For my Zoneminder install, I bought 2 POE (Power Over Internet) HikVision cameras to try from AliExpress.com.   I received a $5 discount because I spent over $125 so the whole total for 2 cameras was less than $180.  Pretty good deal considering Amazon.com prices for similar cameras were $120 and $150 each for $270 total.  The cameras came in LESS THAN A WEEK with Free Shipping.  I’m not sure how they do that, but it’s amazing…

One thing to point out is that these cameras have ‘Chinese’ firmware and should not be upgraded per suggestions from various online forums.  I didn’t have any issues with them.

Here are links to the cameras:

How did you go getting the DS-2CD3145F-IS setup in Zoneminder? I’ve been trying to get it to work for 2 days now wth no luck!

      Matt,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Depends on where you’re at in the installation. I have too many projects (sorry) and plan to post my entire setup, but if you saw my work-bench w/ the cameras sitting there, you’d understand:-(

I setup the DS-2cd3145F-IS just like my DS-2CD2332-I and I think there are notes on that on zoneminder.

I’ve cut/paste from my notes, hopefully this will help you. Please reply w/ more specific question if you don’t get it working. BTW – if it’s any consolation, I spent days setting up Ubuntu only because I originally wanted to go w/ Debian Wheezy (because of linuxcnc.org), but Zoneminder was not cooperating and I’m not good enough at Linux to figure it out. So, I went Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and had success. Grub2 is another story – that was a nightmare.

I installed the Hikvision SADP software on a separate Windows 7 Computer, but couldn’t see the cameras at first. Found a forum (http://www.cam-it.org/index.php?topic=5879.0) that said you needed to install BOTH Hikvision programs (also iVMS-4200). Once I did that and opened SADP, I could see both cameras. Then, I changed the passwords and IP addresses for my camera system. Also, I’m using a standard POE switch…

As for the zoneminder settings, I used/followed the wiki here: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Hikvision_DS-2CD2332-I

I am using one of the latest zoneminder installs on ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

      Hope that helps?

Did you manage to get it working with zoneminder?

I would like to get it running as remote instead of ffmpeg/vlc
